    2 part epoxy

I need your help guys! Im trying to find a product that will closely resemble japanese lacquer. Ive been all over google trying to find out anything about it but with no luck. All i know is its a natural resin from some japanese tree.

So i figured i could use a 2 part epoxy resin but i need one that will hold a rigid shape but still be flexible as to not shatter when hit or bumped.

I have been testing a product called Sikadure 52 its a construction repair resin but i think it will be to brittle, it snaps like plastic. I thought about fiberglass resin but i think it will be too brittle also. Any products you guys recommend?

I went and bought a small bottle of the g/flex epoxy today, a little pricey, but we`ll see how it goes. I applied it to metal and leather, but it`s still not set as of right now, so i guess ill have to wait till tomorrow to see if it works for my needs.

If it works it looks like ill be in for around a 100 bucks a gallon, plus leather, paint, and 1/2" wide flat thread, if i can find any, why are these hobbies so pricey?

I am not sure what you are trying to end up with but I wanted to mention this product.
3M 5200. Its an adhesive caulk. It sticks to everything and is like rubber when cured (in 7 days)
    It is very expensive.

This is no ordinary adhisive caulk, its murder to get off. Its the best thing of its kind I have ever used. Its weather proof too.

They use it in the marine industry.

yep 5200 is some very tough we used it at the boat yard if you glued any thing in with the 5200 it took a stick of tnt to get it out and that may not work .we glued transducers in the boat hulls it would sometimes pull the gell coat off the boat hull be before it would come loose guys work on the sail boat would pull the mast off them said if you did not cut the 5200 loose first you would start lifting the sail boat out of the water? hard to say i never pull sail mast off but i would think there is truth to it.

5200 is great stuff! Stands up to heat and uv light too, as well as salt water. You figure any marine product has to be pretty tuff to stand up to the environment it is exposed to. We used it in the Florida Keys for all sorts of boat stuff, from tranducers as mentioned above to patching cracks in fiberglass. Great stuff and been around for years!

I need a product that will lacquer over the leather to keep it rigid, but be somewhat flexible at the same time. A real armour was stiff, but could take a hit from a sword without cracking or just shattering.

Maybe penetrating epoxy. I think its called Smiths. Try a boat yard or marine supply. Very thin like water and will penetrate deep down.

    Who tests your armour ?
