50 and 51 Merc speedometers the same?

Need to replace the speedometer on my 51 Merc. Have located one out of a '50 which I've been told is the same as '51. As I don't have my old one out I can't compare it to the picture of the '50 one. Anyone know for sure whether they are identical? Thanks

I dont think so. The 49 had a different dash insert than the 50-51. I believe the guages are round type in the 49.

To the best of my memory, '50 & '51 are the same (at least in appearance). The '49 is totally different, separate, round gauges
