can I shorten my blower pulley from 3 1/2" wide to 3" wide???
Hello Everyone! .... I need a little more room at the front w/ my Hemi in my '32 project! My blower pulley is 3 1/2" wide, can I cut it down to 3 1/4" wide. The belt is 3" wide. This would be for the bottom pulley. I would not cut the top one..... Thanks! Bill

i would think you can trim off 1/4 to 3/8 you want it a hair bigger then the belt you have to see were the belt is goning to track when it runningLast edited by pat mccarthy; 12-03-2008 at 06:33 AM.

You can also trim the belt and make it narrower---they also have 2 in belts---you aren't going to use that starter, are you???

....Thanks Pat & Jerry, ok I'll grind off 3/8 of an inch. I have to see where the belt is going to track it? What's that mean? ....Humm, don't like the look of the 2" belts but I can trim mine a little if necessary? That's an option then. Starter? I don't understand! Bill

I looked at the pics of the engine in your gallery---I'm talking about the starter mount on the blower
You can probably machine and narrow the idler pulley to make the belt track where you want but will have to be careful because of waterpump, etc

Thanks Pat & Jerry! hmmm, after looking it over I see that there is more involved than I first though! If I grind {or have machined as Pat mentioned} down the bottom pulley then I have to also have the spacer behind the idler pulley & spacer behind the top pulley machined. And there's no way the ideler or the top pulley spacer's could be ground {has to be machined}. What I'm going to try first is to move the brake line that's in the way & then take off the bolt that holds the alternator/water pump pulley/harmonic ballancer on to see if I can then get the bottom blower pulley on..... Also I can un-bolt & raise the engine up to help do this. Although I need to cut my firewall more so the distributor can go up...... Thanks again, I'll report back after I try this! Bill

if your bottom pulley alt pulley is alum you can use a steel stamp pulley a you may have to re work the blower pulley adapter from pulley to hub or damper to pull the pulley in .i used a steel stamp pulley alt/water pump pulley did this on my chevyLast edited by pat mccarthy; 12-05-2008 at 05:02 PM.
