Carb advice please
I recently bought an old Vette with an Edelbrock carb on it...The guy "rebuilt" the carb... the right primary booster drips fuel when it's running and it runs like it has a vacuum leak...everything the pervious owner did to this car was done wrong and I have fixed a lot of it...I have had this carb back apart twice to inspect and clean it but the problem still persists...Anyone have any ideas???? Thanks....I remember when hot rods were all home made.

There's a little gasket below the booster that if pinched or torn in the least, will leak. It will look like the fuel is coming from the primary venturi booster when in fact it is coming from below the booster where it meets the body of the carb (see #33 in the diagram below).
I replace the gaskets every time into an Edelbrock just to be on the safe side. They're fairly reasonable and then there's no question there.
If the previous owner had been "less than gentle" there could be other issues. As Pat mentioned, needles and seats are made of soft materials and if not treated correctly, they will mar and scratch. Fuel is under pressure in all of these circuits so it doesn't take much for a leak to develop.
Good Luck,
Glenn
p.s. if you have not done so, go to this link and download the pdf of the manual from Edelbrock

Right on, Pat -
I think some folks don't take the time to service the carb correctly and any little bit of dirt or even a small scratch can really mess thing up!
As per my ol' dad - "The demands of the services nor the importance of the job are never such that we can't take the time to do it right!" - or, if you don't have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?

Glenn

worn butterfly shaft bushings.
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

Gaskets showed up today...After installing them the issue persists from the same booster...I have other carbs but they are 720 miles from here...It's very frustrating sometimes not to be able to touch your stuff...Everything looks to be in order on this thing but it's not working...I'm thinking abut reversing the metering rods to see if the problem will move to the other side....I remember when hot rods were all home made.
