Was just wondering if the 1946 Ford Coupe and the 1946 Ford Tudor Sedan bodies are interchangable, are the frames the same? They both seem to have the same wheelbase length.

Ford used the same frame in the passenger cars from 1941 to 1948. So you can do the body swap. The pickups used different frames. Are you thinking of changing your tudor to a coupe?

Thanks for the information. Yea, I am kinda thinking about it since I would really like to go for the chopped look. I think the coupe would be easier to chop than the sedan.

I think there would be more work on a coupe, because of the small odd shaped rear windows, where as the sedan has big windows that arn't triangular like.

Hmm, i may have to agree with the guy above me. Im going to chop mine one of these days but cant really find pics of anyone that has been done to kinda get an idea of how much i should take out.

46fordSuperDelux, I have a boat load of pictures I have been collecting from various places. Most of the are of the Tudor, chopped or not. If there is a way you can get me your address, I'll burn you a CD with all the pictures and send it to you.

I have decided to have my Tudor chopped, since this is out of my league. I just haven't found anyone who has done one and would do it.

Also, finding info on the 4drs is like finding bigfoot. It seems like only a hanful have been built. And im not going in the typical resto or street rod direction either. I have ALOT of experience with airride suspensions and what not so i think that im going to lay the 46 out on air, old steelies, and some white walls. BUT i need to get a new front clip and a new rearend before i do so! Tryin to find info on these is making my head spin !

Here is the only fordor body I could find customized. Not chopped, and it is a '41 Merc, but similar.

Only car I really regret getting rid of was my '47 fordor. 50,000 mile car, rader wheels, molded fenders, diamond pleat interior. Needed money to move, so the car went away.

There is one small thing you should be aware of if your going to swap frames. If you have a business coupe the doors are the same as four door cars. The sedan coupe(club coupe) has the same doors as two door cars.

The intermediate frame mounts(the ones that sit under the door jambs) are in different locations due to to length of the doors. No problem though, as these mounts bolt on. You do need to swap sides with the mounts.

Is swapping frames on the mid 40's Fords something that can easily be done? And im sure that would save me the trouble of front clipping it, and also having to cut up the rear of the stock frame. So as far as getting IFS and a diff rear under there, would swapping the frame be just as much of a task but a better idea in the long run? If so, what frame would i use for the swap?
