H pipe X pipe or neather
I'm having a new exhaust installed. Should I have an H pipe , X pipe or neither.

My understanding is an H pipe works to improve the low end power (slightly). I like them cuz it seems to get some of the resonance and "cackle" out of the exhaust note.....yeah, I like them to sound good as well as look good.... For whatever reason, seems to make the engine sound a bit deeper, small inch engines sound like they're bigger then they are.... No idea why...Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Thanks for your reply Dave. I'll see what kind of room the muffler guy has.

i have the x pipe with 4 inch with dyno max mufflers on the gto .at the time i did it i had the 548 14to8 cr engine it with a luntati roller cam 748 lift on a 108. the sound was great.it sounded like a very big ferrari. no cackle just a low guttural sound then when you hit it change pitch .i have done both the x is harder to do . i have done alot more H then X i did not need any low end .i will stick with the X for the BBC if i could down load the u tube vid. i show youwith the low cr 10.5 cid632 just sounds abit mellow i think its the low crLast edited by pat mccarthy; 05-08-2009 at 10:04 PM.

X pipe----you can get a couple different versions from Magna Flow in stainless and 2,2 1/4, 2 1/2, 3 in----kills resonance, and flows better high end

I think X pipes are alright for scavenging, but for troubleshooting, it's nic to know which side the miss is coming from, and cheaper with straight exhaust.

Here's the "H" crossover that my daughter installed on a Chevy Nova with a small block. Sounds very nice.."Where the people fear the government you have tyranny. Where the government fears the people you have liberty." John Basil Barnhil

I put Pype's X pipe set on my 548 powered Chevelle. It is a nice set up. But theier muffler is way too loud. I have had crossover pipes and the X, go with the X. EddGod, guns, cars and 1 wife, I would say I have it all.
