You can also look at the two tabs at the bottom of the pumpkin.
If its a 7.5 it has "fangs" that look like little fang teeth. If its an 8.5 the fangs are like two littlel blocks.
Or if you don't understand my way, go to maliburacing.com then go to tech then "7.5" and 8.5" Rearend comparison" It shows the pics of the three and you can also tell the difference by appearence not just by measuring.I gots to know

I don't know if those nubers will tell you anything or not, I just look at the ring and the pinion, they will have numbers stamped into them. eg: 12(on the pinion) and 41(on the ring gear)= 3.42 gear ratio. Just divide the pinion number into the ring gear number and round up.

ok thanks I have already determined that I have 3.08 by deviding the ring by the ipinon I figured out that the 40 and the 13 in the number was the amount of teeth it had on the gears but that way by marking the weel and drive shaft and tureing it is good to know I could use that in a junk yard when I dont want to take the cover off thanks

Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
