Roadster pickup getting front disc brakes----

So---Today I ordered up a complete front disc brake set-up for the roadster pickup, from Hortons in Milton. Rotor & hub combination, calipers, pucks, brackets to mount calipers, bearings, spindle bearing adapters, and requisite nuts and bolts. This is to go on '40 Ford spindles which are currently running '40 drums and shoes. And the price for purchase, Goods and Service tax, sales tax, and shipping??--Step back---step way back----$874.00. Yeeouch!!! Damn that hurt...

And yes---I do have a dual chamber corvette master cylinder and an adjustable proportioning valve in the rear lines, and I did order a 2 pound residual check valve for the front.

Brian, I saw your post on the "other" board. I was going to add a comment but the post was closed. I love traditional cars but I will NEVER compromise safety to have my car "traditionaly correct". My hat's off to you for putting safety first, even at such a high cost. My car often carrys precious cargo in the form of my wife and grandkids. There's too much at stake to have my car "correct". Besides, "correct" is a term that belongs on an antiquer's board, not a hot rod forum.

I agree. If you don't intend to build in safety, then don't build it. I appreciate all kinds of vehicles whether hot rodded, street rodded or restored, but I'm not impressed by the "lifestyle" that thinks that using inferior brakes, no seat belts or other safety appliances is the only way to go. Shows a severe lack of concern for their own safety or that of their loved ones. Doesn't make good sense to me. I think you did the right thing, Brian.

Oh oh Brian, did the Traditional Police not care for your disc brakes? I didn't see that thread, but it sounds that way if it got closed. Something tells me if they tangled with you they had a tiger by the tail. (you know, don't tug on Supermans cape and all that stuff)

Post some pictures of your new install. We promise, we won't close the thread.

Hahahahaha..........I just found that thread! I LOVE your response. Just think what would have happened if you told them you pulled off the generator and put on an alternator!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are some really good people on there, but some real idiots too. (this isn't a post to bash them, honest) What is funny Brian is that guys like you and I were doing this before most of them were even born....or thought of. I bet most of them don't even HAVE a hot rod.

Keep improving your rod Brian, that is what is truly traditional.

Well Don---I gave as good as I got. I like to post over there, and most of the time the people I deal with are reasonable. They have closed one thread and deleted a second thread today, so I guess I'll retreat from the battle before they kick me off completely. Thank god that we are all allowed an opinion!!!

That was what I found strange Brian, you are a very well respected contributor to that forum. You post tons of helpful tips and those great cad drawings of yours. Lot's of people have certainly benefited from the hard work you have done.

Just think what would have happened if you had said the R R words!

Its strange---Every once in a while I run up against some hard headed SOB who would rather fight than anything else. I try to give accurate information, and I will only post what I know to be true, not something I only read about or heard third hand. Most of my posts are welcomed by the rodding community, but still, once in a while things like today happen. Human nature I guess. I only quarrel for a short time, then move on. Arguing and fighting is not my thing.

    Thumbs up

    Outstanding Brian.

As for me thanks for the reminder of why it is a waste of time to participate over there. I'm a 'proud' member with lots of bling on the deuce and 0 posts. But I do enjoy the riffs and rants of some of the holier than thou true rodders over yonder.

You're gonna like your new brakes.
