Dist. tach line
I will try to make this short. Driving down the highway the engine shut off would not restart, towed home. Replaced the control module in the Dist. Two months later engine shuts off again, towed home, while trouble shooting disconnected the tach line engine fired right up. Here's the problem pluged the line back in engine fired up. Disconnected the tach and been driving with it disconnected. Waiting for the hammer to drop again. Any ideas greatly appreciated. (355ci chevy hei dist).

What kind of tach? Is it grounded well? Makes me think that the tach is putting an unwanted load on the ign. module.Ken Thomas

I don't have a tach, but ran the wire in case I wanted to add one at a later time. The end of the wire is taped and has a wire nut.

Possible that the tach wire is chaffed going through the fire wall? Have you measured the tach wire to ground to see if that's the case?"Where the people fear the government you have tyranny. Where the government fears the people you have liberty." John Basil Barnhil

I always carry a spare module in the glove box. I can install it much quicker than the tow truck can arrive.
It does sound like your tach wire is ground out somewhere..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

Sounds very logical to me, checked wire to ground, checks out ok. Could it be something in the Dist.? May just replace the Dist.
Thank you Roger. .
