350 crate motor
We purchased a 350 crate motor about two or three years ago. It is the engine gm sells for carb engine replacements.
Would this engine have roller tappet cam or flat tappet?Danny

Turn the crank around until both valves on #1 cylinder are closed and the piston is at TDC. Remove the rocker adjusting nuts, rocker arms and pushrods from #1. Shine a very strong light down one of the pushrod holes while you peer down the other pushrod hole. If it's a roller cam, you'll be able to see the sheet metal spider and dog bones.....looks like this....

but the answer to the question would be a simple yes---it would have a roller OR flat lifter cam!!!!!

I find myself a man possessed sometimes - actually, I just love the research and have tons of files on this stuff! One never knows when it may come in handy. I converted most to electronic media, so it's fairly easy to find and copy!"Where the people fear the government you have tyranny. Where the government fears the people you have liberty." Regardless if you cut and pasted or typed it all out, I thank you for the info. Might come in handy one day so I printed it and stuck it in my folder titled "If The Need Should Arise".Bob

When my father passed away (1995) I went through everything in his garage. He had file after file of projects - some he had completed and some were in his "If The Need Should Arise" file. It was bitter sweet at first, but as I continued through his mounds of documentation and paper, it became a time of joy and allowed me to hang on to just a bit more of him. What I'll ever do with the rebuild instructions for a Clinton 3 horse engine is a mystery, but if my kids someday enjoy reading all the "stuff" that I've electronically filed over the years half as much as I did my fathers written files, then it's worth it!
