    Whats your best use for...........

For all your mechanical problems, always have a roll of duct tape on hand. Many of you may be confused because you don't know what duct tape is. This might be because you always thought it was called DUCK tape. Well, it's not. It's duct tape, but it doesn't only work on ducts. This silver roll of adhesive goodness can be used to fix it all. Ducts, car bumpers, tears in a seat, pulled threads, wounded ducks. It can be used to hang hot rod posters or pictures or mirrors or chandeliers. For the ladies out there, you can even use it for at-home bikini waxes

So whats been your best use of the silver roll............mine was holding in a D150 driveshaft (if you've owned one you know why it was named adventurer ) that had broken a u-joint clamp, it held for 22 miles (was out in the country) till I made it to a parts store, when I got to the store and put it in park the drive shaft fell out again......but at least I made it .

Actually, i have never used duct tape in my repairs. Im a fan of JB weld. Great for busted tranny linkages, broken off vacuum ports on carbs, speedometer cables and lenses that drop off. And, you get a lot for 5 bucks.

    Ahhhh.... DUCT TAPE

I have been using duct tape for a while now in various odd applications. I think that if a repair can be done in any way other than using duct tape, it should. But duct tape has an exceptional strength and useful life span, along with its durability. I always carry around papers in my pockets. It started out as just a 8.5X11 sheet used to jot stuff down carried in my right side pocket. But I fast found that I had to replace the paper every few days. That meant copying everything over on to a new sheet every week. I got tired of that fast. So, I spied a roll of duct tape laying around. I picked it up and started wrapping it sticky side out around a stack of 8.5X11 sheets quarter folded. Got it done. Now I had a sticky pouch. So, I covered the whole thing shiney side out. Now I had a strong pouch perfect for holding my papers. It would hold up to the wears and tears of my pocket and protect my documents. It became known as my document portfolio. I liked the way it performed, so I made another for my pens. And another for my deck of cards. And another for another deck of cards. Soon the word spread and I was making various stuff for people all over school. Now I made my document portfolio four years ago, and it is just now needing a remake. A couple of years ago it required some patching, but I was impressed with the durability. I had become so accustomed to my use for the shiney substance that I forgot its true purpose. I had some ducting to do, and I forgot you were supposed to use duct tape. But I was reminded, and it did a pretty good job at its intended purpose. I haven't used it to hold doors on a car, or anything else like that, but it is pretty dang good at protecting stuff.

Up here in Maine we use it mostly for replacement rocker panels. In cold weather we use it to tape plastic sheets over the broken windows.

Thanks, Uncle Bob, but I called it by what I was using. I was using Ace hardware brand HVAC approved tape, thus it was DUCT TAPE. I use Manco products to seal the boxes I send out and pack up. Thus, I know when I am using DUCK tape and DUCT tape. I have always been careful about which one I am using.

Can be use to wrap duct work, but doesn't seal or hold up ducts very well.
    Use to pull unsightly hair.
    Holding on book covers.
    Reflective lettering.

Sealing envelopes (in case you hate the taste of envelope glue).
    Closing chip bags.
Fix vacuum cleaner hose. (doesn't work very well)

Make a wallet out of it.
    Hold batteries in remote control.
    Hold pens together.
    Graduation present. (got some)

    Repair work gloves.
    CD case.
    Makes stylish notebook decorations.
Use it as a substitute for Bondo. (seen it on an 80s ford pickup, painted over and all)
Stare at it and try to find new uses for it.
    Throw it at people.
Write on it and stick to someone's back.
Can be used to clean the floor when no vacuum is available.
    S & M. (works pretty well)
    Make a ball.
    Repair trim on cars.
    Gagging device.
    Wrapping Christmas presents.
Make really cool underwear. (guy did it at my High School, and came to school with only them on.)
Torture. (not as effective as whips, chains, and riding crops, but still works pretty well)
Hold the plastic on your car where the window should be.
I knew I had done more than make cases out of the stuff, but I couldn't remember what all I had used it for. I have tried every one of the above personally, or for a few select ones, seen it first hand. Now, Uncle Bob, some of the uses above were using DUCK tape, some were with DUCT tape, and some were with a derivitive of the two. Either way, it is quite versitile. And I don't want to get any flak off of my uses of it for S&M and torture. What goes on behind locked doors doesn't concern car buddies

Back in High School, my health teacher told me about a good use for it. He said he was always the designated sober guy at all of the frat parties when he was at UTK. He said that when the guys would get drunk and pass out, he would strip them naked. He would then proceed to wrap them from neck to toe in tape, sparing not the fuzzy nubbins. He said he would then turn them on their bellies and put them with their heads over the edge of the couch, so that when they puked they wouldn't drown. I wouldn't mind trying that myself had I decided to go to a college with houses. But the opportunity may come up yet. Apparently the guys were all pretty pissed when they woke up. I think they were more pissed at the guy who had to unwrap them then the teach, cuz they had no idea who it was.

Well I am in College at Clemson University and live in an Apartment off campus. My roommate and I used duct tape to run the internet cables across the floor. I also keep a roll on the transfer case lever. Never know when you might need it!
