How the heck?
How do I get the oil filter bypass valve out?
I am bypassing the original oil cooler that was in the Suburban this engine came out of.
I know that I need to get the bypass valve out from the center hole of the spin on oil filter, but I can't figure it out.
So far all I have been able to do is yank out the spring.
Please help.

There is a technical bulletin floating around that suggests it is better to pull it out if not running the original oil cooler. Either way, I already chanked the spring out, sonow I am committed. Thanks again, I genuinely appreciate having such a great resource to turn to.

Success!!Once again it is about having the right tools and a little insight from people who have done it before. Thank you all.
You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
