Help 94 Ford Pickup problem
I'm having problems with my Fuel Pump, it's a single tank and the motor is the 300 cu inline six with 188,000 miles on it. The first time it would not start (could not hear it run) we dropped the tank and put the pump on the bench, hooked it up to a battery and it worked. Put it back in and it didn't work. Being it's a "Rusty but Trusty" truck I cut a hole in the bed and pulled out the pump from the top, went and bought a new one from Advanced Auto (got the life time one), put it in and it worked for about three months. It again failed the other day, had my son bring over his Rollback to take it out to his place to work on it, said I'd try it again (about an hour later) and it worked. He use it for a few days and it wouldn't run again, pulled it back out and cleaned up all the connections, it worked again. Now it's only a Rusty truck, can't Trust it any more.
My son talked to a Ford mechanic and he asked what kind of pump, he says it's the pump, that's there must be a flat spot and whenever it shut off and hits that area it wont start. He said that it happened to him with a brand new Ford pump and that they just beat the bottom of the tank with a rubber hammer until it worked.
Any suggestions?

The next time it won't run check for current and ground as near to the pump as you can. If you have both, the problem has to be the pump or the connections and wires between where you checked and the pump.
If you whack the tank and it works it is pretty likely a bad pump. Not one shred of evidence supports the notion that life is serious.

I have a 94 ford pkup two tanks, no problems yet, but on another pkup
I had once, I had all kinds of problems with what I thought was the pump.
you could go two days with no problems, then it would just quit...let it
sit a while then it would go again...Problem turned out to be a relay over
heating and shutting down the pump..This may not be your problem. I would
check all wires for good connections, and ground....good luck rdobbs

if its the oval plastic plug that clips to the top of the sender, inspect the plug AND sender for signs of overheating/melting. ive had to replace my fair share of pigtales with senders.

Well I fixed the old '94 for good, I gave it to my son and went out and bought a "new" truck. It's a '92 F-150 4X4, another in-line six and four speed with 93,000 miles on it. I looked all over for trucks with under 100k on them and the price was usually around four grand. I was telling my brother-in-law about it and he said he'd sell me the '92 for what he had in it, $1200, I said Sold. We trade vehicles and goodies back and forth alot, usually it's a Model A or T though.

Tom, don't count it gone for good yet. I bought my '90 F150 new, gave it to one son for his first driver about '97 and it came back a couple of years later when he got a Mustang. Then it went to the oldest son and he drove it for five years until his son was born and Momma said the old truck was not safe enough for their kiddo so it came back. Seems to have some sort of homing feature...Roger

This is the ol' truck that just got the engine pulled for new pan & intake gaskets, new cat back exhaust, and a new class 4 hitch to pull my '33 roller home, all for her 20th birthday!! Sent Scotty a message earlier tonight about a pickup date for the 347 stroker. You may get a chance to see the ol' '90, Dave.Roger

A man was watching his wife as she prepared to fry sausages in a pan. He noticed that before placing the sausages in the pan, she always cut off both ends, threw them away, and cooked only the middle...
