    Help!! Column Drop Bracket

I am in the process of gathering parts to build my own steering column. I want to use a steel piston rod and cap for the drop bracket.

My OD tude size is 1.900.

What make and model of rod sure I be looking for?

Is there a place on the internet to do research on the sizes of rod journals?

Any ideas? I tried a 350 rod but the journal is way too big.

I will post pic's and a material list when I gather all the parts and start to build the column.

    Thanks, Larry

    Larry,

I'm using a alum. rod from 4 cylinder ford racing eng. from the 60's and it looks nice. Do a google for "rod big end bore sizes" and see what comes up. My rod was a little over sized for the steering column but that was good . Placed a thin strip of inner tube rubber in the cap and rod and it fits perfect without marring the column. The rubber also gives you some wiggle room on the angle of the column. I needed that as I was a little off on the angle when cutting the small end off the rod. Good luck.

    Jack.

Like Jack,in my 32 coupe I'm using an aluminum rod out of a top fuel dragster.

If you have any racer friends you can usually get an old connecting rod from one of them.

If the hole is too big you can have an aluminum collar machined to fit the rod to the column.

Thanks alot Jack. I believe I can get by with a 2" journal being my tube is 1.900. I was also thinking about using some rubber to take up the gap and for a little cushion.

    Again thanks for the help.
