building tubs, did I start wrong? idea
Hey guys, I need to build tubs for the truck, but think I might have started out wrong.....
With the new tires (31x12") on I took and put a spacer (can't remember how big) on top and then held a marker on top of that and rotated the tire, tracing that onto the sidewall of the bed. then went to work with the plasma cutter.
was that all right? of course I can't remember now if the jack stands were under the rear end or under the frame, so might not have had the weight down on it. but am double checking this weekend.
I made two pieces, matching those cutouts, and put a 90 in the bottom, originally was going to slip that under the bottom of the bed (we went metal versus wood slats) and weld in, then put the strip to fill the space. but was just looking at pics......
I am planning now on cutting new half moons, and attaching the strip to them out of the truck, and not flanging over the bottom, just set it right on the bottom of the bed and weld in place. that will leave a slight lip inside the new tub, but you won't see that and I'm making them plenty big (I only need about 2" but was going to make them 3 or 4" because I think it'll look better.
any input appreciated.
