What is the difference between the 454 and the 8.1 496?
Thanks for any help. I am considering installing the 496 in my 70 and will need any help I can get so as to not reinvent the wheel and learn from others that have done this swap. Thanks!

I'm in the process of doing this to my boss's '90 SS454 p/u ...... 496 with dyno'd 505 HP with a 700R4 behind it.
Engine came from Patriot Performance in Ala. Trans is from Monster Trans in Fl. As soon as it's all bottoned up ..... I'll u tube it when it finished. I plan on using ALL of the 454 accesories.
I was originally going to utilize a 502/502 delux carb'd unit but after the dealer (chev.) couldn't deliver one (I gave them 45 days for what they said would be 3-5 days even with paying it in full up front) I went with the Patriot unit. Basically it's the same bar the little stroke it has.
That's it for right now.

45??? Yourmath teacher is rolling over in her grave!! It's 42!!
However, the difference between a 454 and a 496 is bore size, and NO, you cannot bore a 454 to the 496 bore size.
Otherwise, the engines are identical.Buying parts I don't need, with money I don't have, to impress people I don't like
