Fuel shut off valve // ignition switch

Have been burning out the forum search engine trying to find details into adding a fuel shut off valve and/or iginition switch for anti-theft purposes - haven't found much... Did however read an excellent thread on Lojack systems.

Can you guys point me in the right direction? How difficult is it to install these systems?

I understand if the bad guys want it they'll just use a flat bed but for the casual thief.

Buy a "ball valve" as used on natural gas from your hardware store. They are about $10. Place it in an "out of sight" spot. Also very handy when your service your fuel filter.

Or you could basically put your fuel pump( electronic of course) on what amounts to a hidden toggle switch. can also do the same for the ignition wire down to the solonoid. quite a few ways to put a kill switch in. trouble is hiding it well but still having easy access to it.

Go to your local NAPA dealer and get one of the valves that is used in a pick up truck with dual gas tanks. These things have 3 ports on them---one is for the "fuel exiting". One is for fuel entering when the electric solenoid valve is NOT energized. The other is for fuel entering when the electric solenoid IS energized. The theory is that in normal conditions, fuel runs from tank number 1 thru the valve to the fuel pump, carb, or whatever. When tank number 1 gets close to empty, you turn on an electric switch which passes current to the valve, causing it to shift and allow fuel flow from the other tank. They work great---I know because I installed one in my roadster pickup to prevent fuel in the tank (which sets in the back of the bed, higher than the carburetor) from filling the engine with gasoline when the float sticks!!!--They are inexpensive, and would work great as an anti theft device with a hidden switch. If you are really interested, do a search under my name--I did a big article on it here a couple of years ago.---Brian

This is true though I love my dog too much to keep him in the truck all the time.

A friend bought several kill switches from Harbor freight(the kind with plastic keys) for his dually which he tows his fifth wheel trailer. He wanted to do the same thing you do so he basically put one switch where most people could find it and hide another where you'd really have to be small to find and see. I guess he figures the first switch will distract them long enough for someone to notice or for him to get back to the truck.
I figure on my truck I'll go for something a little easier, like remove the fusable link on the wiring harness. Unless someone has one ready to go, that and the fuel shut off will stall them long enough.
You could also take a picture of yourself and mount it on a poster board with huge writing underneith, If you don't see me driving or in this car, then call the police 1000 dollar reward. Then when you park at a car show, put these in all your windows before locking it. Cheap way to make a crook think twice in broad daylight, but like any system, if someone wants it bad enough they will find a way to get it. Thus plan B have your car well insured with a certain payout value in the policy!

How about a kill switch in an obvious place......but instead of a kill switch hook it to the lights, wipers, radio & horn .........and make it a reset switch so they can't turn it back off.

Maybe just for kicks run a wire to a pump that squirts them with dye or sprays them with florescent powder or anything you have handy to mark them. It'll make it easier to pick them out of a crowd later.

Or just wire the kill switch to a stun gun, turn the switch and zap!

Then he (or she) would be real easy to spot. (He or She) would be the one flopping around on the ground.

Huh, never thought of that. Could wire a switch in almost everywhere. "Honey, go hold the tale gate latch open so I can start the truck."
