pontiac 400 chevy 350 swap?
i have an 1981 chevy blazer with a tired 350 will a pontiac 400 out of a 1976 firebird match the motor mounts on my frame and will it match my turbo350 tranny

Not smart, I do not know if the bell housing will work but u have a 4X4 engine that is stroked and bored to produce high torq at the low end, and the firebird engine is bored to produce high Hp's at midrange. Example: a 97' F150 4.6 has 245 Hp but has over 375 ft pounds of torq but the same engine in a car version makes over 300 Hp but less than 250 ft pounds of torq. I do belive the mounts matchYou don't know what you've got til it's gone

I agree! leave the 400 in the pontiac where it belongs or just send it my way. I need to freshen up something for my catilina. LOL Besides it would not take much to go through a tired 350 amd freshen it up.Can you rebuild a Qjet without breaking a nail?

Streets and Bowtiegirl are correct. Buick, Pontiac, Olds, And Cad (rear-wheel drive) all have the same bellhousing bolt pattern. Chevrolet is different. Front engine-to-frame mounts may or may not be the same depending on year & application.
Matt167 is a little off base. The difference in horsepower & torque in two engines of the same configuration is not a difference in bore & stroke, but comes from a difference in the cam, heads, and induction system. All stock Chevy 350's, for instance, came with a 4.00" bore and 3.48" stroke, but horsepower ranged from 165 to 375+.Jim

I guess I got a little confuzied, but thanks for correcting me, J Robinson. I got confuzed with somthing else. I remember now cause truck motors cams ar diffrent than car cams and, the carbs are also diffrent. I had kind of the right concept on the torq to hp ratio though.You don't know what you've got til it's gone
