Question '34 Tudor 3 piece hood... how?

have a '34 Ford Tudor with a 3 piece hood designed & poorly executed by the previous, previous, previous owner. It has an internal latch which is bolted to the radiator which never seems to function properly. Any links to an illustrated guide on how to properly design and install 3 piece hood? Thanks!

Quite a few of the rod part suppliers have latch kits. TCI comes to mind. They usually have installation instructions that are on line and are downloadable. A little reverse engineering and your problem could be solved. If all else fails, you could always buy their parts.

I used the Carolina Custom 3 pc. hinge system. It came with instructions.

You will spend some time getting it right, but worth the effort. If you have the Carolina System (see online store pic.) and need instructions,I have them. Knowing these folks they would send the instructions if you in fact have their hinge system.

    Good Luck

The owner (IIRC, his name is Steve) refused to send me a copy of the instructions to his 3 piece hood hinge/latch system so I could review it before purchasing. I was told to call him by the owner of my local rod shop (Hercules Motor Car Co) who has been a dealer of his products and a close friend for over 20 years but it still didn't help get the instructions.

Don, if your offer still stands, I'd love to have a copy.

This is the "set-up" my previous owner designed... any idea if there is enough of the original set-up left to retro-fit the carolina systems?

I thought you were asking about the side opening type hinge system, your's is a front opening . If you wanted to go to the side system it appears after looking at the pics. that the side system would adapt. I would remove the cobbled up hinge and clean up the radiator and order the Carolina System.

Do you plan on running side panels? Side panels require a 90 degree mounting surface for the bar. Look at the pic. that Carolina shows in their on line catalog and you will see what is involved. I can take a few shots and post if that would help. The bar has to be cut to length and altered to fit the cowl sides (angle cut) and grill shell (bar is thinned down so hood sides fit flush). It took me good while to accomplish but worth it.

Is your hood glass or metal?

With the 2 side system you can run no hood, top only, side only and full hood.
