    Everything went great untill

Dam thing has been one thing after another. Fill the trans up and it leaks at the dipstick seal, put a bucket under and go inside. Next day crawl under to fix and kick the bucket over, Fill the radiator and it leaks from the bottom corner, take it out and to Acufab (aluminum) Took them a week longer than they said and cost $10 more than I could have bought a different new one for Plus It still leaked, took it back out and back down. This time same ½ day and no charge. At first start up it had a rattle like a loose nut in a hub cap—random and inconsistent and only occasional. Tore the intake, pan, timing cover off and found nothing put it back together. Taking it back off the jack stands it rolls back and slips off the jack/cross member, the jack catches the steering rack but it looks ok. Runs for a minute then the dam rattle real quick and short and only running on 7.-- # 8 plug had a closed plug gap reset -now runs on all 8 and still the nonrhythmic occasional loose nut sound. Power steering belt is loose, so I tighten it up and blow fluid out the bottom of the rack. Replace the rack but do not hook the belt back up and start the engine the rattle is gone, replaced the Pump. Now it won’t accelerate off idle quite right, vacuum advance on the new Dist is sticking. Finally today with only a bill of sale and a tracing of the VIN plate I get plates. Out on the road I go. The front is so far out of alignment that it won’t stay in the road over about 15mph, Go to calibrate the new elec speedo and it won’t enter cal mode. Drive to a friend’s house to calm down and reread the instructions, No help. Decide to go back home, ½ way there is a pop like a blown collector gasket and a little farther it stalls. Restarts right up but won’t idle and down on power, go a little farther and stall again, Cranks good but won’t fire. Open the hood and see anti freeze on the header, pull the dip stick and find a milkshake. Get towed the ¼ mile home and drain the pan—2 gallons of yuck. Start to pull the engine apart. When I got the intake off, I just started to laugh
This is not what it sounded like, it did not make this much or load of a noise This was a good running engine in its first life.
Its only a 305 And I still haven't found the piston

My condolences. That looks like one dead small block Chevy. Any idea what caused it?

    Question

Owww! Hey, look Ma, I got a hammer in my cylinder! Oh, speculation runs rampant. Let us know what, if anything, you find.

My condolences. Don't ya hate it when that happens. I've blown up my share in my life. But the best one, and still gets me chuckling to this day was my 64 Dodge Dart GT. It had a 225 slant six. Oil pressure was low, but had to drive it anyway, well after a couple of months I was taking my girlfriend to school and it got noisy, Bam blew 1st rod got quiet for a while, (still running). Noisy and Bang, 2nd rod blew, (still running). About another mile Bang Bang 3rd rod blew (STILL RUNNING). I finally pulled to shoulder and shut it off, It would still idle, but was so down on power it wouldnt pull this low hill even in 1st gear. I even restarted it later to get in a better position so we could drag it home with a chain. Now thats a motor that just didn't want to die.
Again my sympathy..... Sorry for your loss.

It'll buff right out. Good thing GM built a zillion of those, shouldn't be too hard or expensive to find one to replace it.

I like your Jeepster. I got one for Xmas when I was about 11........long story, but I have a soft spot for them ever since.

Still don't know why but found the piston or at least a chunk (1) about 1x 3/4" and an aluminum mash in the pan.

well i see that look like piston oil rails in the lifter valley i think you will find some parts of it in the busted water jacket . cast pistons are not to strong like a forged piston but not even a forged pistons not going to look good running thru a block
