OK guys, everyone is talking about the reduction in zinc in todays oil's. And that zinc is required certainly at breakin. However nowhere have I read anyone recommending or even saying which oil available today might have enough zinc. Is this some kind of big secret? What is a good recommended oil to use during break-in for a hydralic cam?

And Pat, I do respect your vast amount of knowledge when it comes to engine building. You have me convinced that you actually do know what you are talking about. I respect what you say about Roller Cams as well, but I do question your cost figures about the $400. Man I can't even find a set of roller lifters for that kind of money. The cheapest I have found are $430 for a set of in house Jegs brand of roller lifters, add to that the cam and springs and I don't see away to keep a roller cam change to a roller under 6 or 7 hundred dollars.

Pat what I am saying is educate me! Where can I buy??

well i get lifters for less then that howards did sell kits at $500 with cam and lifters bare bones kits??.and theres two cam s i know of that competition products that did have that were way less then 200 for the cam so it can be done. i done it shopping around helps.springs are any more then stock or not much more as your talking a small lift cam engine. i am now doing a 289 ford and a283 chevy both with Erson hyd roller kits. i did not do much shopping my cost still was not bad as you are thinking your going to put 200to 140 in to a flat lifter cam so added 400 or less gets you to a roller ether way your looking at valve springs but you will need new push rods as for oil you buy the brad pen or joe gibs break in oil... race oil only can have ZDDP in it
