    Mini spool fail

So i have a question as to why this would happen i have a richmond mini spool in my 10 bolt 7.5 in rear end monte carlo. Can you see where it is smashed on the spool kind of hard to see but i noticed it when i found out i had alot of play in the rear end after changing everything in it. Its like that on the opposite side of the spool too and it has allot of backlash but everything else is okay just wondering why it would do that. its chromoly too.

I recently bought a Camaro ex drag car and it also had a 10 bolt with a Richmond mini spool in it. The rear end had a lot of slop in it too, you could turn the input yoke a good amount either way before it stopped. I kept the parts I wanted off the car and scrapped it with the rear in it..........it just didn't seem right to me and not something I wanted. The play on mine seemed to be where the axle splines entered the spool.

Not sure if that is a by design thing, but it sure seemed sloppy.

With all rear end setups, alot of shimming and getting the correct end play in the setup of any rear is critical in how long it will last. Either spool or locker if you don't take the time and follow these guidelines, you will have failure.

Shimming has nothing to do with a mini spool--they are poorly designed with many sharp corners for strees risors---but anyone interested in a quality piece wouldn't use one anyway

I agree, put a regular spool in if your gonna use one.
A Ranchero is NOT an El Camino
