    Craftmans timing light

I have a Craftmans timing light in box I bought new in 1985 and used very
little..I also have a MSD...The last time I tried using the Craftmans light it
seemed to skip some on the flash..it is the model #161-2134 serial # f-85
which I was told was one of their best lights. Called Sears and they say to
old for them to locate on their computer as to parts...Before I trash this
light, does anyone have any suggestions as to who works on these lights,
and if so is it worth the time & $$. thanks

As much as I hate tossing tools, sometimes it just makes better financial sense to buy a new one. By the time you factor in the parts and someones hourly rate, you will come out better off that way, I think.

Plus, you got 25 years out of the old one, so it owes you nothing, IMO.

I just noticed you mention the MSD. Is it possible that is throwing off your light? I don't know, just asking. Maybe try it on a regular car and see what you get.

While MSD boxes don't mess mine up and it's a LOT older then your Craftsman (probably one step newer then a candle).

The fact that the MSD is a Multiple Spark Discharge system that might mess with that tiny and early design electronic brain in the light, especially at the 5-700 rpm timing set range when there is some real almost measurable interval between those impulses. I too would try it on another car without an MSD before trashing.

MSD offers very good support, here's one reply from their forum, you might look for others or contact them directly. http://www.msdignition.com/forum/arc...hp?t-6608.html

If it is the model, where the cord assy plugs into the bottom of the handle, then check that connection real good. My light kept getting a bad connection there. If you are not comfortable dis-assembling that connector, then any computer, electronics repair can do it. Clean the terminals, make sure they are expanded of a good tight fit. They charged me 5.00 to fix mine.
