    84 350 sbc emissions?

Whats all needed for good gas mileage? These years seem to be the worst for fuel emissions stuff added to the engine. I have a 84 Chevy truck c-10 with a 350/350 STOCK set up and this thing has about 30-40 vacuum lines laid over the top of the engine a couple thermal switches, diverter valves ,etc, etc, but the computer is also not hooked up. Is all this stuff needed for good emissions/fuel economy? At this time I have the egr,and charcoal canister hooked up and nothing else. All this stuff is not needed per the state law its not required to meet newer vehicle emissions and is not even tested with the smog machine any more but if it helps save gas and keep air clean at the same time I'll hook it all back up. Will replacing all this stuff be a waste of time and money or will it help?

First, an 84 Chevy truck didnt have a computer.....it may have
had ESC but not a computer.

The carbon canister is designed to control evaporative emissions
that occur when the motor is shut off....doesnt affect performance

All of the hoses were typical of the era when the engine designers
were trying to introduce controls that were of a somewhat rudimentary
nature.....especially compared to today's ECM controls.....

My personal opinion is that the older controls were so crude and the
standards to which they were trying to meed were so lax (compared
to today), the removal of certain controls probably doesnt negatively
affect the emissions of the vehicle.....BUT states have laws, you
have to look at your individual situation. I had an 85 Chevy truck
into which I put esssentially a Vortec 350 with a real QuadraJet setup
by Shaun Murphy on a Edelbrock 2116 and a ZZ3 HEI. The thing nearly
zero'ed the Arizona emissions test every year for both idle and loaded.
It was significantly cleaner than the truck was new.....However, this was
a brand new motor not some tired iron.
