    hi guy,
sounds like you will have to take the wheel apart and replace the broken rod and or pieces and reset the start switch. get a book you'll need one, there are a lot of parts in the colume.make sure that you disconnect the batt first, don't need fire or burnt parts. going to need some special tools to deal with it too, wheel puller, spring compressure, couple of steel picks and time alot of time if you havent done one before. just go slow and keep everything in order as you take it a part, if you drink coffee make some. good luck dave

Chances are that Wrench is right on the button.
Can you check under the dash on the column to see if maybe the rod is popped out of the switch and hanging up on the lower column switch? Or take the switch off of the column, then try and put it in park.
Do that first before you take off the wheel.

Is it a floor shifter? Sounds like your shift cable got used as a ground and is now frozen.
