30 Ford Coupe needs help
I need help from you body and fender guys. When I bought my 30 Ford Coupe it had big damage in the rear fender area. The area that is really damaged is the bead that is stamped into the sheet metal that goes around the wheel well. I mean, it is pushed in on some areas to the point it doesn't look like it was supposed to be a bead at all. Can anybody give some advise on how to repair this. As always your help is appreciated.

I'm not a bodyman, but will offer something until one sees this and posts. Two ways to repair something like you describe. You can rework the metal that is there, or cut out a section and put in a new panel. Some patch panels are available from various vendors, and is often the easiest way to go, and you are working with new metal.

Never figured out why but theres just not very many patch panels available for those coupes. As popular as they are you would think you should be able to buy anything you needed for em. More than likely you'll have to find a metal guy to make one,or get yourself a bead roller with the proper size die and a tipping wheel and study some u tube videos and you should be able to fashion up a suitable replacement.

Takes a lot of time and patience with the correct body hammers and dollies.. If you have access to a bead roller the method mentioned above would be the best, but then plan on lots of time spent slowly welding the new panel on so as not to distort the rest of the fender. Not a hard job at all, just tedious.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

If you've got the skill and tooling to form your own, great.
Or, here's another source for plenty of sheet metal parts http://www.fordor.com/category.cfm?c...ept=2831modela
Another source is Berts Model A Center in Denver, 303 293 3673 They list a complete quarter panel for either side, a bit pricey, but if you need one badly enough they are available.Last edited by Bob Parmenter; 11-11-2010 at 01:06 PM.
