    Old Gasoline

My son is getting his '89 Fox body Mustang running after sitting idle for about 18 months, heads off for most of that time. Back together he put ~3 gallons of new gas in it only to find that the fuel pump's bad. We dropped the tank and it is nearly full (gauge is inop, too), about 12 gallons which is now about 1/4 new and 3/4 18 months old.

Would you drain the mix of gas out or install the new pump and run it?? Going to happen this morning, one way or another...he's gone to pick up the new pump now.

it will be fine as long as the tank has been capped---especially since it was pretty full
a near empty fuel container is a different story

Thanks, Jerry. I was leaning to it being OK, but your opinion makes the decision easy.

I agree with Jerry - that's not a vented system so shouldn't have gone bad but if it's an ethanol blend........who knows

Dave, I hadn't thought much about it until you mentioned the ethanol but when he pulled the pump (Walbro Hi-Flo - used to run nitrous) the rubber "S" hose that connects the pump to the line above was just coming apart on the outside. The neoprene ( I think) liner was fine, but the outside of the hose was just eaten up. That's probably the effects of the ethanol blends that we get around here whether we want it or not
We're still going to keep the fuel, but will remember that it may run funky until that tank is gone.
