Still not fixed
I hate it when things don't make sense. The last time I told you guys and gals that I had bought gas and within a mile the car would not idle. Got some heet and put it in the tank drove around and drove around added gas and drove around. Gas tank getting low problem still there. Decided I would drop the tank. But before I did I looked under the hood one more time. Noticed I had oil drops under the valve cover breather opposite side from the PCV. Hum? Started the truck and it idles warms up and is idling but not good. It is surging from 950 to 1200 rpm. when I am driving it in gear it goes to 450 and wants to die at a stop sign. I checked vacuum at 950rpm in park and it is 14.5 lbs.. I checked this at the trans connection on the intake. This happened like someone flipping a switch. I did change out my air cleaner before this happened. I changed from a Edel. round one to triangler wire mesh. Frustrating.

Try putting the edel breather back on. The motor may not be getting enough air thru the triangular one. A big problem with the triangle one is that if you pop back thru the carb the inside of the breather melt and run down into the carb, if your butterflies are open at that time then the melting plastic will wrap around them and cool off locking the blades in an open position. I know this from first hand experience.
Try to swap your air cleaner back and see if problem goes away.

I tried taking it off no difference. I will switch back though.

I bet you got some water with that gas fill. Pull the carb and clean it. Change the inline filter while you're at it.
You don't say what carb you have, a Holley won't stand any water. A Carter or Edelbrock will sometimes pass water through with no ill effects. A good shot of alcohol will help get rid of it, too, but to be sure, you should pull the top off the carb and clean it.

It is a Holley. I have determined that it has to be trash in the fuel line. The fuel filter had come apart internally. Dumping everything that was in it to the carb. I think it was a coincidence that it happened after I filled up or that is where the trash came from. Thanks for everyones help. I will post what I find. Is there a particular book for Holleys. Never done one before.

Fram fuel filter? been down that road myself, they are trash these days.
I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
