    air flow question?

I removed my a/c and on my 84 chevy and i was wondering.....

Would completely removing the A/C Condenser promote better cooling?

Do you think it would an effect the temp at all?

    thanks:

If you don't intend to ever put the AC back on then removing the AC condenser will improve your air flow through the radiator. I doubt you will see much difference in temperature unless you have marginal cooling now.

Removing any obstruction in front of the radiator will promote better air flow to the radiator.
If the fan , water pump, and radiator are in good working order then you may see lower temps.

I would not remove the A/C just to promote cooling.
A good fan shroud or a good electric fan and if you are running a automatic trany,
a trany cooler will help. A thermistate change and luvers in the hood help as well.
And like the other guys already said, removing any obstuctions will help it cool.

He was only asking if he would see any improvement. It's already out. Naturally, if you remove an obstruction you theoretically improve the situation. Would he see any improvement? Only if the system was marginal to start with was Rogers point. And I agree. If the system is being controlled by the thermostat, theoretically he will see no difference. The thermostat will still set the engine temp.

IMHO, MY 2 Pennies, yada, yada, yada...

You are right if the thermostat is working properly.
We know that ain't always the case though.

    No

my water pump, fan shroud, fan & everything works perfect. My temp during normal driving is 187 degrees F---- (i have a digital dash) So I know the exact temp.

I was just wondering because since I have no A/C -- I have no need for that obstruction blocking my radiator. I figured (by right) more air should hit the radiator.

What you guys are saying-- makes since. (the temp is controled by the thermostat)

So if my cars runs constantly at (around 187)---WHAT THERMOSTATE DO I HAVE---

    Probably a 180 or 185 degree.

All thermostats open at the given temp it is rated for. But is not full open until 15deg later. So a 180 opens at 180 but is not fully open till it hits 195.
There are many other factors when it comes to temps in the motor. Main one is ambient air temps. A motor will run cooler on a 70 deg day then on a 100 deg day.
So judging temps cannot be done just by the t-stat.
