I feel like such a dummy... anyone done this before?
Just to put some story to this, I decided that the weather was beautiful out this weekend and I would clean the driveway and side of the garage up. I started moving all the junks around and picking up all the parts and trash that the melted snow had uncovered. Well, as I was moving the last running junk out of the drive so I could back my pick up in to load all the trash up, it would seem that the wheel chock, melting snow and possible movement of the earth may be, sprung the non runner parked at the top out of gear. As fate would have it this old truck took off on an unmanned rampage down the drive across the street across the lawns and side walks across the street stopping at the front doors to the old folks home, luckily no women, children or passing cars were targets. I don't think anyone saw me until I realized that all the tools under the hood had scattered all over the street...I didn't stop to pick them up, I just made a mad dash to move the truck to safety. Then some idiot ran them over stopped and helped me pick them up....boy did he and I feel stupid. Nuthin like a run away truck or running over a 7/8 polished combo wrench...Last edited by rattymodelA; 03-02-2004 at 10:21 AM.

I had a stupid little problem a few weeks ago. The girlfriend had to move and i only had 2 days to do the entire move as we were scheduled to go out of town on the weekend. So i rented a 5 ton truck to do the move. Well i threw my back out within the first 1/2 hr, got the truck loaded jump in and had a dead battery. Had to wait 1 1/2 for the rental company. Get to my destination and as im turning around to back in to the driveway, the frontend of the truck caught a piece of ice and the front wheel slid sideways onto a fire hydrant. Just my luck the bolt sticking out of the fire hydrant slipped right into one of the holes in the rim. You think i could get off of it. the only way off is to pull it off sideways up a slippery hill. son of a ....... So i had to wait another 2 hrs for a tow truck to come and pull me off, and he was having a hard time getting traction, just a bad day

Back in the dark ages when I was young, my dad and sister went to see a guy at the readi-mix plant about a concrete job. This was out in the country. The guy lived on one side of the road his bus. on the other. Dad pulled in the driveway, and went to the house to talk to the guy. My sister, (circa 2 yrs old) was crawling around on the floor. (1949 Hudson Wasp) Some how she got hold of the column shift and pulled it in reverse. Next thing she's idling across the highway.... and runs into the shop door. It was all in slo..mo.. so no injuries, but if there'd been traffic, could have been bad news.

about 3 ys ago , me and a good friend was in tulsa picking up a lincoln towncar with a good alarm ,and while there we decided to do a little doing a little power drinking ( which we dont do anymore ) and decided to drive home, after loading the car on a trailer we headed home after about 3 miles . we hit a section of rough road then to our worst fear ,,,,,,,,, flashing lites and sirens so we pulled over in the turn lane ( yes turn lane ) and waited , waited ,waited .
finally we decided it would be good to get out of the truck , to our suprise , no cop ! the car on the trailer set off the alarm and was flashing the headlites and horn .
we then pulled over in a parking lot and went to sleep it off !!!
we dont do that anymore !!!!yes i drove ,the trailer didnot drive it's self

About 20 years ago I left a truck with a manual trans running in neutral without the emergency brake on and it rolled down the driveway turned and scraped the neighbors beater early 70s monte carlo,it only cost me a 12 pack of beer for the damages.

I use to work for a car wash manufacture and we use to make and sell our own detergent which used alot of different chemicals. We had and old clark fork lift to unload the chemicals from a 18 wheeler. This fork lift had no brakes and we had to use a portable ramp to load and unload product. When you unloaded you get about halfway down the ramp and then throw the forklift into ist gear to second gear to slow you down. I hired a new kid and after showing him the ropes of how to stop the forklift he unloaded the truck. On the next to last load he ran out of propane and I sent him to get another tank. He attached it and I told him I would unload the rest. For some unknown reason he thought we were through and pulled the ramp back from the truck. Expecting to down the ramp, I went down alright about 15' and upon hitting the ground the fork lift rolled over and put its forks through the side fo a brand new caddy belonging to the president of the company. I walked away with some cuts and bruses but the kid walked away with a broken nose after I finished "talking with him".Keep smiling, it only hurts when you think it does!

Me and my dad was working on his 83' Mercedes, well, he told me to put it in neutral and fire it up and, we had the wheels chocked and thought we wouldent need the E brake so we didn't engage it and, we were all done and, the car is shut off at this point and, we began to unchock the wheels, not realizing that I had the car in neutral, I pulled the last chock and, that car started to roll backwards, I tried to hold it but, I did not want to scratch the paint with the little stones stuck to my hand and could not hold it but, lucially my dad jumped in and saved it. We kind of looked dazed at ourselves after my dad saved it. That car is also my dads pride and joy so it was a good thing nuttin happened to it.You don't know what you've got til it's gone

When I was 18. I left my old '77 monte running while it was up on the ramps so I could find a "mystery leak" that only happened while the car was running. I couldn't see the leak from the perimiter of the car so I got the brillian idea of crawling under the car (from the front) while it was still running. Somehow while I was prodding around the car jumped into reverse and backed itself off the ramps.
I managed to slide far enough forward that I didn't get crushed and then I sat up hurriedly to see my car slowly creeping toward the barbed wire fence. Car went throught the fence and stopped in the soft dirt of the field. That was a hard one to explain to Dad.

I done another stuip thing,I had my 55 olds convertible on ramps taking out the treadlevac power brake unit in my grandmas garage with no one home. Of course the emergency brake cables were froze up and I had forgotten to block the wheels,so I was removing the brake booster(50s olds were below the steering column) and I needed more room to wiggle it out so I moved the rod to the trans. The car came rolling down and if it wasnt for the garage door being down to stop the car I might have been killed, so here I am with the frame hitting my chest and being on a creeper wondering what do I do now so I was able to wiggle off of the creeper and get out. When I get out I noticed the creeper was busted and was thinking man that was dumb so I fired it back up and drove it back up on the ramps and blocked the wheels and removed the booster, the next day I was hurting so I went to the doctor and he said it was bruised ribs and I never done that again. Streets, thats' hard...
The only one I have (so far) is a mates 64 Falcon Coupe, it's been lowered, etc, nice cruiser. He'd just got it back from the panel shop after a Drunk driver smashed into it, an almost wrote it off.
He had parked his car in the carport, and gone inside, shortly afterwards his neighbour from across the road came to tell him, his couple was parked in his front Yard.
His handbrake wasn't working properly, so he left it in Gear (Auto) it jumped out, backed it's self down the drive, with a picket fence down one side, through the gate, then onto the road. This road is two lanes either way, with a traffic island down the middle. It's a busy road, and this was middle of the day...
It backed across the road, hit the traffic Island, bounced forward, did a 3 point turn, crossed the traffic island forwards, across the next two lanes of traffic, down the neighbors drive, and stopped at the front door. Amazingly it didn't touch a single thing, not a fence, car, tree on the median strip, or anything. Not a scratch. Someone who saw it, reckons it looked like it was being driven. True Story, weird huh....

Ive had a close one myself. I was swapping the tranny in a grand marquis for my parents, and my dear STUPID uncle rolled it up onto the ramps for me. Unfortuatly, he half-engaged the park(anyone with a crown vic/grand marq knows the shfters suck) and i blocked it, jackstands under the frame and hit the e-brake. I crawled under this thing, and started loosing the crossmember bolts. Next thing i knew, the car started getting closer. I grabbed the side and basically threw myself out. I stood up, and turned around to hear SNAP(ebrake cables), Crunch(jackstands sinking) and kind of a grind(blocks moving out). when it fell to its level position, it sat about 2 inches off the ground. Not Cool!Right engine, Wrong Wheels

No brakes
The most stupid thing I did was to go at 133MPH with my ex police car a Chevy Caprice 2 doors equipped with a 350 4barrels TH350. The total weight of the car+me+my buddies+stocks in the trunk+fuel in the tank was 4975 pounds. The brakes stopped to work on the highway near a curve I was realy at 133mph. You will never see a Caprice drifting like that in your whole life :P
I regret it now cause thats the most stupid things I made.
