ShopGathering 3
Today 10:31 AMoj
This is the last one for the year and coming up quickly. This session will have mini seminars going on at the same time. We'll have Bill Anderson (rescheduled from the 1st gathering) delving into the flathead assembly esp the unique valve train geometry and adjustment; Mike Whitt (we hope, although he is starting to get cold feat) setting up a ford 9" gear set; John Wessels on rebuilding strombergs and holley 94's; I'll be doing carb theory, rebuilding other carbs; John Dayton will rebuild and bush the lever action shocks; Dave Krolak will come down to go into brake systems.
I'll open the shop around 8am woth coffe and donuts etc, we'll get started around 10am, have a deli-style lunch and continue until whenever, last guy out turns the lights off and locks the door ok?
We can also do specail demos, inclwelding and machine operation etc - just ask.

I just got off the phone with Dave Krolak, we were discussing the brake seminar. He really is putting together an in-depth session from model 'a' to hydraulic conversion to master cyl sizing and modern disc brakes. He is going to let the discussion go in whatever direction it wants to take and he'll have examples of the diffrerent systems.
Dave used to teach this stuff at Wyotech and now works in his restoration shop in Maryland, so if you want to learn from a master here is your chance.

May have to move to Virginia! Seriously, this is a great thing you're doing, and it would be nice if some of the younger crowd takes advantage and gets involved.Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

Just a reminder, tomorrow the 13th is the day. It is going to be a good one too, Bill Anderson came by yesterday with the flattie for the demo and we have that all prepared. Mike Witt has to cancel the rear gear setup as he has to deliver a 32 hudson to delaware and he is out of state, we'll get him on another dya. John is ready for the houdaille shock rebuilding, John Wessels and i will do the carb theory and rebuild procedure and Dave Krolak will get into brake systems from master cyl to wheel cyl/caliper - he said he will focus on the model 'a' conversion to hydraulic but we have enough materials laying about that if anybody needs advice on discs etc he will be able to provide examples. And we got BROWNIES!!
The gatherings are all free and we have a ball at them.
If you are interested my shop is at 607 E Main St, Berryville VA 22611, shop ph is 540-955-0479, i'll open tomorrow morning around 8 oclock with coffee and donuts.

Shop gathering 3 was a great time. Probably 20-25 people attended and the discussions were indepth, very interested people. We leaned about houdaille shocks, flatheads, brake systems and carburators. The pics were from the parking lot and inside with Dave (brake systems) and John (carburators).

I wish i had taken a picture of what John was showing to everybody in the above pic. He had just showed how to tap and remove the emulsion tube from the Stromberg 97. What we are looking at is the emulsion tube, John has pointed out that when the jet is overly tight in its' seat the emulsion tube gets 'crushed' - the emulsion tube is seated inside a channel and the depth is limited by a collar near the top of the tube, the jet is screwed into the bottom of that channel and makes contact with the end of the emulsion tube. If it is overly tight the jet will push the emulsion tube further up into the channel and collapses the tube around the area where the fuel is emusified. That is one of the slickest pieces of info about the 97's i have ever heard, in fact nobody in attendance was aware of that and that is why we were up at the table for a close look!Last edited by ojh; 03-14-2011 at 08:05 AM. The Yenko? I have a couple good pics of it but i loaded the pics into my laptop and it is home.
No more sessions for this year. They will happen again next winter and i am looking for suggestions to make them better. I have a few personal rules to prevent these gatherings from becoming a commercial enterprise, they must be a free exchange of information, other than that i'll listen to any ideas.
If any of you have expertise in an area and are able to share that wisdom please come forward, we'll make room for you.
Thanks, oj

I figured it was a Yenko or "recreation"..looks pretty cool from a distance though! If not for the stripe I probably wouldn't have asked . If you have a minute later to post a picture I would appreciate it!'35 Ford coupe- LT1/T56, '32 Ford pickup, 70 GTO convertible, 06 GTO

Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
