    V Band Clamps

I was wondering if anyone is or has used V Band Clamp for their exhaust system. If so, any problems? I am almost finished with my exhaust, just down to the last connection points I would like to be quick and easy. Oh yea, purdy too!

I have two V-Band clamps on my 32 exhaust system and one on our drag race VW exhaust. Love'em, it's the only way to go IMO. They have been on for about 3-4 years of use.

After you get over the puchase price, it's a no brainer.

John, have you had any problems with leakage? Also, are your flanges stainless or just billet steel? I don't think I want to use billet steel flanges on the mufflers since they are polished stainless (Magnaflows), and I won't be coating them. Don't want any rust. Do you remember who makes your clamps?

Keith, I have had no problems with any of the three V-Band clamps that I'm using. On the roadster, it's a 2 1/2" mild steel system, has two stainless V-Band clamps about half way back, in front of the mufflers. I think the clamps were from dynomax? The mufflers are stainless Magnaflow. The entire system was ceramic coated in satin black. I'm glad I had it cermic coated because it controls a lot of radiant heat, and still looks new after 15K miles. If I had to do it over, I would have also used stainless tubing. I had to design the system to have no piece over five feet maximum, to fit into the coaters oven. I have a full lenght system and was surpised to find it grew in lenght by about 1/2" from start-up to full highway temperature, so make sure you build your hangers to allow ths movement. It took as long to make the hangers as it did to make the entire system, LOL.

On the VW drag car we have the V-Band clamp between the header and the small bullet muffler. We are required to run a muffler at some tracks. Of interest is the muffler is "not supported" except by the V-Band clamp and after four seasons we have not seen any problem or breakage. It's really handy to remove the muffler when pulling the exhaust system to do an engine change. I would only consider the stainless, not the mild steel because it will rust and stick together.

    Hope this helps
    John
