I just got this car , didn't want to change to much, keeping the flat head in it ,
change 6 to a 12 volt , then a friend had a T5, so I can't get the back drums off the
rearend , so change rearend , , spend less time with the old stuff.
thats about as far I want to go . Thanks for the Welcome Rodd

The stock banjo rear in your car is about 61 to 62 inches wide, as I recall from looking at mine. How wide is the 8 .8 you are looking at? The one problem with 8.8's in general is that there is a lot of bracketry to cut off to get them clean enough to use under a 46. An 8 inch or 9 inch is generally so much easier to install and clean up.
The right way to find a perfect rear is to first buy the wheels and tires you will be running on the back, prop them up under the fenders to where they look right, then measure the distance from wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface. That is the width rear you need.

Remember to take off the shocks and springs and put in a solid strut to get ride height correct. After the rear is hung and all brackets attached and ready to go, then you put in shocks and springs.
I didn't know him but followed his posts. True hotrodder, he will be missed. RIP 34_40 MIKE. Condolence to the Mrs. Nolan
