    Brake Proportioning Valve.

Since I had the rear end in my truck catch fire and the brakes were redone I have had brake problems. The guy that worked on my truck said that he had a hard time bleeding the brakes and that he thought it was the Proportioning valve. I think he was right because now I have one front wheel that wants to lock up and the rest do nothing. So I was wanting to order a valve from Wilwood that I can adjust for towing.
Anyway they start talking about brake line flare angles. Does anyone know what the stock 1970 Ford pick up brake line flare angle would be???
    This is new to me.

Before you order a proportioning valve I try bleeding them again.......I think Fords are different than GM in that the r f and l r work together as do the l f and r r. So if he wasn't aware of that he could have done it wrong.... but then I could be wrong

Ok now I am confused, I have never bleed a brake proportioning valve.
I already sent off for the replacement valve since they don't make the one for my truck anymore.
Atleast that is what I was told, I found out that a couple of the tube nuts are to big on the valve I have now
and will not fit the new valve. I explained to the tech exactly what I had and he said this would fit.
HE! HE! HE! Sure it will, after I change everything else, rebend all the brake lines, and double flare everything.
These guys are getting as bad as some of the Design engineers!!!

Kurt..........I have a Wilwood PV inline on my car and the fittings are 1/8" NPT and 3/16" line. There is nothing new you have to know if you have a proportioning valve in the system when it comes to bleeding .
I have a PV inline about midway going to the rear lines. I made a mark on the knob and counted how many turns to open and close, then opened it half way. There's nothing else to do except get it plumbed in and fittings tight. You make the adjustments after the brakes are bled and the car is running. You adjust so the fronts grab sooner than the rears.
There can be some different size lines coming from the master cyl. which can throw you off. I have seen 3/16" line and 1/4" line coming from one or the other at the MC.
Usually the larger line is for the disc barkes as they need more volume than drums. The front bowl on the MC is the rear brakes so you know which line is which.

Thanks Sunsetdart; Ya I called the tech back and he started talking about line locks, HE! HE! HE!
I said look this is a old truck and there is no line lock gonna be installed on this one.
I was just trying to get a replacement for the factory one.
I don't know what he was thinking, I told him up front what I was doing.
I guess some people just don't listen as well as others. Thanks again.

You need a brake guy that knows something. Pro valves are diff that the aftermarket. U need fac type
or learn how to bleed yours. Not being smart ass, just how it is.

I hear ya shoprat; I have had all my fliud drain out of my system before and have nevr had to bleed a proportioning valve.
From what I understand they don't make the exact one anymore, I may end up going to a junk yard and locating one.
I could redo all the lines and everything but I don't really want my truck down that long since I use it all the time.
I may just try bleeding the whole system to see if that does anything, I am not exactly sure if the mech that worked on
my truck after the rear end fire drained all the fliud out or not. He's in another state so I can't take it back to him.
The whole brake system was redone about 5 years ago now, plus at the time it was converted over from drum to disc
in the front and is now power brakes. I'll let you guys know how it works out.
