    Headlight wiring question

I bought a halogen reflector kit a while back from I think CW Moss although the kit is Vintique. It has built in turn signals. My first question is that since there is no division between the headlight bulb and turn signal bulb the whole lense has a faint amber flash. Is this just a poorly engineered kit and I will have to create my own division?

My second and more important question is I wired it all up exactly as labeled, but when the headlights are on the amber running lights stay on. There are two problems with this. The first being, since there is no dvision b/w the two bulbs the headlights also have an amber glow. The second, even if the running lights were divided from the headlights I don't want the running lights on at all unless I have the switch selected to have them on. That reminds me..I am using a GM three position switch with a floor dimmer.

How can I do this so that only the headlights are on with no running lights??

Just run a separate power wire to the running lights from the park light position on the switch.... Just curious, are you running a relay with the headlights???

Sorry Dave I'm not exactly sure I get what you're saying. I believe there is a seperate power wire though. Coming out of the harness there are 4 wires- high beam, low beam, turn signal and parking light. On the reflector is the same four plus two grounds on either headlight ground on either side. Inside the car I have a nice GM plug on the harness that plugs into the GM switch. So difficult to wire differently I would think unless I start cutting wires? I wasn't sure if there was something easy I was missing. As far as the relay I'd have to look, but I had assumed so...I was just taking advantage of the plug and play of the harness honestly

You would have to run the power wire from the switch to the parking lights through a separate on-off switch. The GM harness and switch is designed to have the running lights on whenever the headlights are on....

got it...sure wish I had known that, but I'm not sure how I would have done it differently before. So I can splice an on/off switch into the running light wire - leaving it off and if for some reason I want them I could flip it to on and then pull the switch to running lights?

yuppers, you'd just have to remember the extra switch would also have to be "on" when you want just running lights on.... Otherwise, no big deal.

good deal. I think the way I might have done it would be to buy a switch from Speedway and cut off the GM plug. It seems like it would work seperately with that switch and I actually had bought one before I realised my harness had a GM plug. I returned the switch a while ago though.

Now I just need to figure out how to go about adding a headlight/turn signal division in the reflector...gotta love these all in one"kits"
