before I tear in to it, heater core replacement
I was told by previous owner the inner fender of my 1965 LTD needs to come out to replace the heater core, The hood hinge is bolted to the inner fender.
Any helpful tips from the experienced folks here? Thanks in advance, Randy

If you have to remove the hood I'd use a cherry picker to hold it open then you won't have to remove it from both sides. Just a thoughtCharlie

Hey..... I just got a flash back. Seems to me, and I won't swear it was the LTD but there was a Ford from that era that you cut a square hole in the inner fender well (the cutout was marked somehow, maybe punch marks at the corners) and a new plate with screws was used to fill the hole.probably not available anymore but easily made from some sheet stock.

Hi my name is John.
1 remove the hood, right hinge support bracket and the right hinge and mounting.
2 Loosen the wiring harness from the right fender and move harness to one side.
3drain cooling system and disconnect heater hoses from core and move out of way.
4 Run a strip of masking tape down the leading edge of the right front door to protect edge.
5 Unfasten at the rear of the right front fender, the bolts holding the fender to the body.
6 Block fender away from body and remove bolts holding heater housing to the dash.
7 Lift the fender and pull out the heater housing and core assembly.
8 Take cover off the housing and remove core.

Found this R&R description - seems to point to a non-ac car being simple, but a factory ac car being a pain and mentions dropping the inner fender for access. Hope it helps - Heater Core ReplacementRoger

And this....
Re: how to remove heater core on 67 Galaxie
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now i know what is nessessary to R&R the heater core in a 1967 Galaxie with factory AC. Remove the hood, remove the passenger side hood hinge, remove the passenger side front fender. Remove the heater hoses. Now you can get to all the 3/8 screws that hold the housing on and then just lift straight up and out. The core is mounted inside the housing with several more screws. In the meantime, im going to bypass the thing and maybe ill get lucky and have a heart attack before i have to change it out. I dont drive it much in the winter anyway.

holy moly!!
Thanks folks for all the help, This is my only car, so I am going to have to bite the bullet. I wonder how many hours this pays, not including the broken fasteners due to rusted nuts etc. This is out of my league, but I don't seem to have much luck paying folks to fix my stuff.
