    Removing Anodizing on fittings

Anyone tried to remove anodizing from fittings with the oven cleaner trick? Wondering how well it works or if it just makes a mess?

Thanks Lynn. I saw a bunch of videos but not that one. I was just wondering if it will get every bit of the coating, not leaving any under edges and so on. Thanks again.

You can take them to an anodize shop and they can remove it for you.....

That makes sense. Then I can have them nickel plate them to match the rest of the fittings. Aeroquip doesn't sell the -20AN fittings in the AU/NI finish.

Now if I could only find a shop that does this somewhere close to me.

    Thanks,

Take oven cleaner and soak the anodized parts in it. It will remove the anodize.
Check out Spectre web site......they have the larger AN fitting in different colors.

    David,
This morning I tried Draino, about 1/2tsp in an ounce of water, enough to cover the blue anodozed AN6 nut that I was using as a test case. Using a plastic stir stick I agitated the part for about fifteen seconds and took it out. As I moved it toward the rinse water the part was smoking a bit from the continuing reaction. Out of the rinse the blue was now a dull brownish black, and about a minute on the buffing wheel had it shining bright. Seemed to work very quickly, and no adverse effect on the nut.

Oh wow. That puts my worries to rest. Guess I'll go with my only option on the radiator -20AN fittings....colors....and remove it. Thanks everyone.
