Cooling fan
I have a small block Chevy in a 1950 Chevy truck. I only have less than 2 1/2 inches between the radiator and water pump pully I need to know what I can do to cool the motor. I also need transmission cooler size. Radiator doesnt have tranny cooler in it. Thanks alot.

Electric fans often don't do the job, something I'm fighting currently.
So, I'd recommend stacking the odds in your favor. Get as large an aluminum radiator as you can shoehorn in, with trans cooler.
If you're towing, or have a radical stall converter, then add on an additional trans cooler.
I've already got that on my charger, planning to add an oil cooler with fan..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

No law says you can't move the radiator forward a little. Cut up the core support if you have to, anything you have to do in order to have an 18" OEM steel fan, thermostatically-controlled fan clutch and a full fitting shroud. Make certain that you have enough holes in the engine bay to allow the hot air to escape.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

For trans cooler what about a frame mounted one? BTW, Tech, I sent you an email a week or two ago about you now being in Union County NC. I am in Union County as well and have a shop in Waxhaw now. We should get up sometime! Your PM box is full, I tried that already...www.streamlineautocare.com

Check out this link Junkyard Upgrade - Dual Electric Fans - Ford Muscle Forums : Ford Muscle Cars Tech Forum Give it a good read! Take a good look at the pictures and you will notice the fan hub and water pump pulley locates in the hollow between the dual fans, and if you want cooling hands down this will do it.

I concur with Tech (again!!), re; stock fan and shroud if possible. Sometimes you need to improvise - I just finished an aluminum radiator and electric fan in a '63 Nova where clearance was tight Radiator Replacement
Might give you some ideas.

IHC pickups had coolers that had the heater hoses running to them, could be mounted anywhere. Looked like a 2" pipe, about 14" long. Run the coolant through the heater first! And don't put a shut-off valve for temp control unless it's a bypass type, or the cooler won't work with the heat shut off. Go ahead, ask me how I know that! D'OH!.
I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
