Breathers on Valve Covers...
Hi everyone! I'm putting some stock valve covers on my 392 Hemi motor (it's got a blower, if that matters). I don't like the looks of breathers on the valve covers but from what I understand I have to have them. How small a breather can I get away with? Is one small one enough? Right now with what I believe are Moon Covers it has two huge ones... Thanks! Bill ; )
ps, anyone who read this before I edited must have though I was drunk! But no, I'm not... I had a couple of crazy ideas...Last edited by billlsbird; 04-22-2012 at 04:02 PM.

if you think that you might burn 3 or 4 pistons every quarter mile, lots of breathing capacity saves the valve cover gaskets----

Thanks Jerry & 1bad32, ah no, I don't want to burn pistons or blow out head gaskets! Thanks for the pic's, when I said 1 breather, I meant 1 per side. And I found some that I like the look of... So 1 per side it is... Or does a bigger motor, more boost, etc. mean you should have 2 per side? My motor is a 392 w/ an 8:71 on it. Just under 600 HP w/ under 10 pounds of boost (so I was told). It's set up as a street motor, not tight clearances on the blower. Actually it's a crate motor from Big Al's Toy Box... Thanks, Bill ; )

The pic of the complete car is what I have now (2 breathers per side). The pic of just the original valve cover (1 breather) is what I'd like to do. Is this enough??? Thanks, Bill ; )

If you want the LOOK of a 8:71 BLOWN 392 HEMI-----it isn't complete unless it has 2 breathers per side!!!!!!!!!!!Look at examples in my gallery

I'm just ready to button up my '55 331 and breathers are on my to do list. Other than looks wouldn't the amount of breather volume depend on the amount of blow-by. On a fresh street-driven motor there should be little.
I'm using stock valve covers also and I hope to be able to hide my breather by plumbing the valley pan. It won't be easy fitting something under the Cragar blower manifold but I think I can make it happen.

the bottom of the engine has to be vented enough so that there is adquete differential pressure across the piston rings or the rings won't seal and it just gets worst from there on-----
If you are running headers with collectors you could maybe plumb the Moroso type scavenger tubes/valves to lower the crankcase pressure-------
Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
