    Transmissions problem please help!!

I was on my way home today ( in my 76 monza, transmission is a standard 350 turbo) and i went to pass a person who was driving way under the speed limit. Car kicked down, i passed the person and rite as the car shifted it acted like i accidently put it in neutral however that was not the case. It will not now go into any gear ( D,M,L,R all act as if it is in park or neutral) ive never have any problems out of this tranmission until today. I check the fluid it is full. IDK WHAT TO DO MY CARS JUST STUCK ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TIL I GET AHOLD TO MY PAPAW WITH A TRAILOR :C

Check the color of the fluid, probably brown.. I foresee a rebuild in your future.. or perhaps a take out unit?

Maybe a line came loose and dumped your fluid?

Otherwise, plan to rebuild / replace it

Could it just be the torque converter?

The fluid is of normal color. ill post some pictures this weekend when I get it out. I cant very well do it til the weekend because of my finals at school this week but im ready to tear into it. After talking to my dad and my friend who have always seemed to be an abundance of auto knowledge for me said that it could just be the torque converter or it could in fact just be my trans went out :C... Either way ive got a spare trans and torque converter laying around the house so no matter what i got it fixed it just never fails that every major job on that little car turns out to be a PAIN IN THE ASS. Ill keep yall posted

Changing just the converter could be a big mess.....Where did the junk from the converter go??? If it is the converter?

Does Park still hold the car from moving? If not, it's a rear end or half-shaft problem.

" Every major job on that little car turns out to be a PAIN IN THE ASS." Those words always go together unfortunately. Look at the bright side the cost of labor is painless.

Check trans pressure. My guess would be a seal blew, causing pressure loss. [rebuild/replace]

(internet diagnosis, not really having seen, heard or smelled the trans in question)

OOPs! Sorry. For some reason I thought you were talking about a front wheel drive, hence the half shaft reference. Sleep deprivation is my excuse, and I'm sticking to it!
My '79 Magnum did the same thing, it was the converter. But then, I had a T350 that the converter bolts were loose for a time, and it chewed the pump drive dogs off and everything quit like that. The flex plate was cracked all to hell, too.

ok so ill post a picture of it when i get home today but I took the trans apart to find what was broken and well i found it. I dont know what it is or what it does but its like a little gear and its broken in half where the main rod running thru the tranmission runs and i also had trans fluid in my mod valve

Sounds like a part of the front pump. Yeah, without that pump there is no pressure, no clutches, no servos.. no workie..8-)

This problem and my vapor locking problem which i made a seperate thread about kept my busy my entire summer !! Thanks for all the help and advice chr!
