73 charger rag joint
Howdy.
I tore out the old rag joint from my 73 charger. Found it was home made, sloppily. Also, the bolts had been welded to the dog bones, guess someone didn't have a right angle phillips head.
I'm having a dickens of a time finding a new one. Only finding NOS and they're made of unobtanium. I'm just not willing to shell out $200.
I looked at doorman product, but the holes are wrong.
Anyone got a favorite fix for an unobtainable rag joint?.

Just do away with it and run a solid shaft where it used to be.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I'm looking into that, and what I have found is that the rag joint is necessary to compensate for body flex. It's recommended that solid mounts be installed before installing a U joint coupling.
One fellow referred to the original as a hockey puck.
What do you think? Drill a hockey puck?.

Have you checked out Borgeson or Flaming river...............they make joints for steering. Not sure if they carry the rag type tho.

Don't know if this link will work... But if it does, it sure looks to me as if a hockey puck will work.Last edited by firebird77clone; 06-01-2012 at 05:30 AM.

Steering Coupling.jpg
Isn't it just a universal steering column coupler like this? RockAuto Parts Catalog I would not use a hockey puck for this service. The OEM coupler is more like three or four layers of fire hose sewn together, and I always thought it was there only to eliminate road vibrations into the steering wheel.Last edited by rspears; 06-01-2012 at 08:06 AM.

you might try the flex shaft from a pinto
if you don't like pinto parts , they also had something similar on BMW or Mecedes, etc
