having problems starting my 62 stepside c10 spark problems
a while ago i was able to get my eingine to fire it up and now i'm not getting any spark i hooked up a tester light and hooked it up to the top wire on my coil it lit up bright and so i hooked it up to the boot that connects to the distributer and it still lit up but it was very dim and my coil is really hot to hot to touch should i get a new coil or should i start investigating into the distributer itself if anyone can help i would grately appreciate it thanks

The light will be dim as it is reading thru the coil windings and the coil do get hot. Is the coil firing? How bright is the spark? Pull a sparkplug out and attach it to the plug and ground it then spin the engine and observe the spark. If you see a crisp little spark then put the plug back in and dump fuel into teh carb and spin the motor again, it'll probably try to fire up.

sure you getting power to coil when engine is cranking ? many times we hot wired boats to fire them at the boat yard . you can only run 12 volts threw the points for a very short time before you burn them up. but if you can crank the engine with the key . timing is good point gap .fuel . you run a jumper wire to the bat to the coil it will run if not then is condenser or points or points wire there a break in the wireIrish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip

I searched the web and found a really good pdf document that shows the steps to diagnose a points system with good pics and diagrams. Send me a pm or send me an e-mail if you want it. I'll reply with the attachment. It's to big to put up here easily. mfmike1@verizon.net
