im trying to get the gas tank out of my 1940 ford coupe. it is full of garbage and has been clogging my fuel line.i want to clean it out real good. i have the 2 bolts out, the sending unit unhooked, the filler neck off. and the main line to the fuel pump off. also i have the exhaust out of the way.i can get it to move back and forth but it does not want to come down. whats the secret to getting these things out? anyone????? thanks, c. conners.

See if the tank has four bolts, two of which have coil springs like the radiator mounts. Once the bolts and springs are removed, slide the gas tank sideways until it is free from one of the frame's flanges. The tank will swing down and out from its mount.I have two brains, one is lost and the other is out looking for it

heres what was my problem, here in porter county indiana there was a problem with several gas stations getting a load of bad gas. it was something i have never seen before but it affected a ton of people, i thought my tank was clogged with dirt or something, the car would run fine, then it would just quit. it would start right back up but quickly die out. i was left on the roadside about 4-5 times. many other people were to. but it would eventually run enough to limp home. well they finally came out and admitted the gasoline had something wrong with it and paid alot of people because people were taking their cars in to shops everywhere. i changed my fuel pump, lines and filters but it ended up being the gas. cant remember now what gas company it was.

I recently had a similar experience with my 34. Got stranded and had to wait 10 minutes or so, then the car would re-start and I could limp along until it would die again and then I'd wait 10 minutes or so and then it would re-fire and putt along. I've been blaming my fuel pump but maybe it wasn't the only problem?

Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
