Boss fitting for1/8 npt on back side of 302 engine

Hello Everybody, I got a 1985 302 ford engine that has a place on the back side of the engine and on the passenger side that has 1/8 pipe threads. I thought it may be for the oil sending unit or for water temperture sending unit but I don't know. The only way to get to it is to reach in behind the passanger side head and it is right above the flange where the tranmission bolts up to the engine. Can someone shine some light on this as what it for, Can I just plug it off? I am running a carb and not efi. Thanks

The only thing that comes to mind is the block drain plugs. Passenger side is towards the front side of the block just ahead of the motor mount and the one on the drivers side close to the tranny. Cant think of any others on a 302 that are not under the front cover or bell hsg other than the oil pressure sending unit on on the front side of the enge by the oil filter.

That sounds like the port for the Thermactor System. The air pump used to connect to those ports via a metal tube that crossed between the 2 heads and then a hose to the air pump. The EPA says no you can't block'em off - yeah, right.....

They make a lot of noise without anything to quiet down the sound, don't they?!?!

Thinking he was speaking of the block. If its the thermactor holes a short as possible 5/8 coarse thread bolt will block them off

This is on the back of the block right under the passenger side head and it is 1/8 pipe because I started a 1/8 fitting in it that comes in a oil pressure gauge kit. I think it would be safe to just block it off. I hope!!!

That's true if the threaded insert isn't installed. But he writes it's in the block and I cannot remember anything back there being threaded 1/8" ! So IDK!

turbo2256b, I think you know the hole I am talking about because it is facing outward toward the passenger side enter fender well, It has a machine surface about 1" dia. and 1/8 pipe plug fits it. Do you think it is ok just to plug it. I don't think there is any coolant or oil senders back in this area are there. Thanks
