    RPM's to high?

I finally got the coupe out and went onto the highway to see how it would do. All went well, nice smooth ride, no shakes or rattles / noises. Even the exhaust was real smooth! I was worried that it would drone and cause me major annoyances.

My only "concern" was the engine rpm at 65 was a touch over 2500 rpm. Do you guys consider this to high? the current combo uses an AOD with 3.90 gears. Tires I think were 38" tall...

    Anyway, what do you think?

Not sure need some pictures of the HotRod for a definitive answer, but 65 @ 2500 not bad. I think my 99 Silverodo runs around 1800 @ 65, your within 700 Rs. Are you sure 38in tires ? Useing a standard most run on a street rod, a set of 15'' wheels with MTs are only 28'' tall. On the rear I run 15in rims with MT ET street radials they are a tall tire @ 30''.

What's your worry if I can ask?

A 38" tire? with your AOD should be running down the road at about 15 or 1600 rpm at 65mph.
A 28" tire should be spinning around 2200. Measure your tires to verify

No, not certain on tire height.. it could've been 28"... CRS ya know?..

I agree that it isn't to bad.. I'm thinking I'd like to see it closer to 2 grand tho..

Here's a pic of the car from this past winter.

Any temp issues running it at 2500??. I am just thinking what drew your attention to the rpm??. At 2500,with the right cam,you just cracking into the bottom of the power curve. That's a good thing.

Mike - that's about right. Mine - 3.25 gears, no OD, 29.1" tall Dunlop tires, corrected speedometer, at 65 is right at 22-2300RPM

I like to rpm a small block, keeps them healthy. Beautiful car. Is that the same rear tire as in the photoraph? They aren't tall at all, you could go up in tire size. If you have big block with some torque and taller tires than what is in the pic then i'd be thinking serious about regearing, get it to cruize at about 1800, 2K tops. If small block i'd let it go.

I don't know about good taste! LOL.. more like good luck...
I walked into the paint store and started flippin' through color chip book. The lady asked "do you have a color in mind?" I said "Nope"... then I pointed to this one. It's a GM fleet color, no name - just a number!

    4R = 4 speed / 4 Gears... Hmmm.. maybe...

WOW, Thanks for all the input and compliments!

No, no temp issues and no concerns, just doing the ol' "compared to" routine I guess.
Yes, the tires are the same front and rear and I had planned to raise the rear tire size after more "shakedown runs".

Again, thanks for all the input!
