    Swapping rear end in a 47 Ford Fordor

     



    I want to swap out my rear end in my 47 Ford Fordor Super Deluxe. Anyone have any idea what rear ends will fit it? And will any of them just bolt up?

    We used an XJ6 Jaguar in ours.

    That was about fifteen years back now, and details are a bit hazy; but I do remember it as a virtual bolt-in swap.

    I just went and had another look at it...and could see that there were no major dramas.
    Very straightforward.
    From memory it also lowered the car about three/three and a half inches.

    And it gave us disc brakes...a definite plus!

    Did you bolt the whole Jag cage in John retaining the Jag rubber mounts to your frame?
    I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

    Not now; no.
    Like I say it was fifteen years or more back, and I've forgotten.
    Dunno if it was a limited slip, and wouldn't have a clue about the ratio.
    Sorry I can't be of more help, but if I've given you food for thought; that's all good.

    Take a good look at the back end of your car, measure it up, and at the next opportunity do the same thing to a Jag diff/back axle.
    Crawl around under cars at the shows you visit, you're bound to find a Jag backend somewhere, they're easily identifiable at a glance with their in-board disc set-up.
    Look at it and measure it, compare it with your chassis rails etc., and you'll see what I mean about an easy swap.

    Look for series 2 or 3 XJ6 or XJ12 Jaguar 1973 to 1983.
    Only the XJ12 is limited slip.
    Ratios tend to be in the 2.9 to 3.1 range.
    Use the whole cage as a complete unit.

    Because it's a disc set up you will need to get a disc set up for the front end as well.
    Here you can use the front end out of the same Jag.
    Another near bolt it job.
    You will end up with a beautiful riding and handling car.

    I have both in my '49 Lincoln I'm building.

    there is a powder coater paint place in Coal City,Il that has a lot of Jag stuff--you should give him a call

    In fact, if you want to keep it as a 6 cylinder---The Jag also qualifies on that end-------
