well it must of been a hi out put one . i had a guy wanted to sell a 409 /425hp to me intake to pan for 1/2 that .fully rebuilt it very well cost that much . World was making blocks in aluminum . others are making heads . some bbc stuff can be make to work. 10 years ago my buddy had a 409 stroker that i sold him some parts . there still around seen one running in a farmers beet truck .who to call ? well there is a guy here in town thats called 409 larry not sure if he still around or would talk to you .look on ebay like i said just that some has one for 5000. may or may not be worth that.you would never see me pay that if i wanted one. i can build one up for less then that i bet i know guys that still have parts .i deal in bbc build them machine them sell them. i never get what i should for them when done. a engine with the right part numbers you may get more for a running engine but seen many running engines that were junk many are going in to buying a used engine thinking a head or block .crank .could be crack or welded been rebuilt time before and all used up .if you have money to sit on in hopes of making money on a low hp 348 it may take some time to flip it. look up the numbers for it see what your buying .the fact that it still running may help some but most are going to rebuild it most stuff will not be used othere then. head .block casting .rods crank damper.other engine parts end up in the trash less very low miles

For 348/409 stuff check the nostalgia racers and thier forums. Theres lots of stuff out there for them. A good friend raced one at about 500" and was reliable. When you get into the original rare factory race stuff is when they get expensive, like cast iron headers and dual 4bbl highrise intakes.

Gezzz it had to be 15 yrs ago we went to LPE auction when John was still alive. They where selling off all of his speed parts he had collected over the yrs and got a huge super market rented to put all the stuff in.On one pallet was for one price 5 409's with all the good stuff like dual quad intakes.I passed on it and it sold for $750 bucks. And what with John it was all the best GM had to offer. After the auction was done John told me really there where 5 running 409 engines on that one with only one dyno pull one them.

So I came back home and I was telling a friend that was working on a 348 rebuild for his 58 about how I passed on that deal because it was old W heavy blocks. He looked square in the eyes and called me a idiot.Show me a bill for bearings alone that he had to order and how expensive they are.Said that pallet in the worst case was worth atleast 5 times what it sold for.Yeah I was kicking myself for awhile after that one.

the small mains size were used in bbc in pro stock blocks and still good numbers. many parts i can get just not hard to buy roller rockers . heads. vavles.pistons Ross makes them . i think timming set a bbc upper with a sbc lower gear useing a ford FE chain but i am sure still can buy a set so no mixing and matching But hard to say what size under you can get for mains ? bearing should on not been to bad ,rods are the same as a std bbc cb743 .someone must of seen him coming . i have some stuff from the super market deals my friends use to go down there and buy Stuff from him

A few years ago i redid the chassis and tin work on Lamar Waltons' SoftSeal Bubbletop - it had a mishap pulling 4th gear and ripped the entire 3rd member out of the housing - now, that engine is something to have a look at. It is now sitting under a bench and i think they have the stuff to assemble another one.
