The Vega cross steer is a great setup for straight axle cars IMO. Speedway sells all the pieces you'd need to put in on your "A", including a Unisteer rack and pinion unit that many have used instead of the Vega steering box.
Here's a link for you on the Vega Box

A side step from Dave S' response
Just for the heck of it and to satisfy my curiosity, I looked at the MAVEL/Unisteer website - pretty poor with not much real information. I also looked a bunch of reviews and forums for comments. Most were NOT complimentary with what they got - wrong parts, poor fitting, screwed up geometry and worse - crappy customer service from Unisteer. Yeah, I know, most reviews are only from the dissatisfied, but before I used that product would sure do my homework - or purchase an IFS from a reputable manufacturer like TCI, Kugel or Heidts that have done many straight axle conversions and be done with it.Dave W
I am now gone from this forum for now - finally have pulled the plug

Chris,
It's hard to be sure from your post, but I think what you may be asking is, "Do I need to get the front end sitting down where it needs to be before I mount the steering box?" If that's your question, my answer is yes, you need to consider your final ride height and steering arm to pitman arm geometry when you set the box location and orientation. It's important that the box be mounted both horizontally and vertically as parallel as possible to the tie rod connecting the two spindles to allow the cross-steer-style steering to work without binding. Here's a really good article on putting a Vega box on deuce rails - Selecting And Installing a Steering Gear - Rod And Custom Magazine
Sorry if I misunderstood your question.Last edited by rspears; 02-02-2013 at 08:42 AM.

Thank's guys for the info.
A man was watching his wife as she prepared to fry sausages in a pan. He noticed that before placing the sausages in the pan, she always cut off both ends, threw them away, and cooked only the middle...
