Rearend off set
Mornin' People. I'm feelin' kinda stupid right now. Here is the story. Went to talk to a friend of mine, who works at a junk yard, about a Ford rearend for my 46. After a little bit of comparison shopping, old to new, and conversation, I was convinced that purchasing a brand new 2002 Explorer rearend with 3.73 gears and posi was the way to go. Took it home, cut and ground off all the brackets, ordered the TCI kit to install it. So far so good. Kept looking at it sitting in the garage, wondering what "felt" wrong. This weekend got out the measuring tape again, tied a string from the front center to the rear center and found the collar sits 2 5/8" off center. I guess I thought all rearends would be in the center so the drive shaft would line up with the transmission.. Any ideas on what to do now?

Don't worry about it!. I've been using Ford rears in custom installations for over thirty years. Just get your pinion angle (up and down) correct and the side offset doesn't seem to bother. Watch your tunnel clearance. Ford gets away with it!

Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
