    Try this, http://www.summitracing.com/search?k...09%22%20pinion

I figure you spend 250 to 600 for the ring & pinion set. Another 100 for the "rebuild" kit, comes with shims, gaskets, crush sleeve, etc.
The tools, a couple of them are specific and only serve the 1 purpose. A dial indicator can be had for under a hundred and has other uses around a car.

You should be able to get a "take-out" from a wrecking yard for 250..??? to 500 ??? and be done with it! Do some internet searches on how to rebuild a ford 9". It's not a terrible job, but do it wrong and you'll hear it for the rest of your days with that ride!

Ask me how I know! BTDT!! Buy the take out!!!

Or, for less than $1000 you can get one from Just Rear Ends in Reno - Just Rear Ends - Catalog I went with their TruTrac spiral gear locker and it's fantastic!! $1200 plus the freight. I still say if you're going to have someone rebuild the unit you have look for your local off-road guy that's busy. Those guys can set up diff gears blindfolded.

OK. Thanks for all the helpful info. I am going to stay away from the junkyard approach as they are really rough here on trucks and i don't want to buy one that is well, junk, and be back at square one. I was looking into buying the whole thing new like Roger suggested, seems the safest way to go.

The Trac Loc Positraction unit is a traditional style positraction carrier which has a stack of clutches that deliver power to the wheel with the best traction, least slip, i.e. limited slip differential. You need to run a friction eliminator additive to your gear lube with a positraction unit or you burn up clutches. Each of the OEM's offer their own name for positraction, but they're generally the Detroit Eaton TracLoc unit under license.
The Detroit Eaton TruTrac is a step toward a full locker, using as set of spiral gears to effect equal power to both wheels, but guaranteeing necessary slip for smooth operation in parking lots, etc. No pops, clunks and squealing, squalling tires, but serious traction. No additives, and strong enough for serious power to the rear wheels. Google Detroit Eaton - Differentials & Locking Differentials

If you're really thinking buying new I suggest you give the guys at Just Rear Ends a call. It's a father/son small shop, and that's all they do so they know their business. As a small shop when you call you're going to talk to one of the owners - not some big box store that's only interested in selling whatever they can. They'll guide you to the right product based on your needs. Good guys.

OK. Will go with them when I get the money needed and another vehicle as this is the only one I have right now. This is the kids in me so bear with me, with this rear end, will I be able to "light em up?" LOL Oh, does anyone know why I can't add a picture to my profile and why when I click on add car to garage it tells me it's full?
